Suhir Failed to be a Successful Migrant Worker

Started from his dream to become a successful migrant worker, Suhir (22), a young man from Merembu, Labu Api, Western Lombok registered himself to a migrant worker company agent or so called “PPTKIS” in the Mataram region.

Suhir was promised to work in a oil company with 2 million monthly salary with advance departure payment in the amount of 6 million. However, eventhough Suhir has fully paid the fee, he needs to wait for quite long time to be sent abroad.

On 2008, Suhir was finally departing through a help of PPTKIS and has to waited for 3 days in a shelter before finally being sent to Malaysia. Upon his arrival in Malaysia, he wasn’t immediately got a job, but need to got through selection process by his Malaysian employer along with some other Indonesian migrants.

His dream to work in a factory, ended up differently as he was being employed in a farm. Even worst, Suhir also only given meals with no salary as previously promised. Suhir runaway as he couldn’t take his job anymore and tried to find another job with higher salary. Suhir finally become fugitive of Malaysian police authority and still couldn’t send any money for his family at home.

Suhir’s dream to be a successful migrant workers and own a house and money for him and his family failed. Suhir’s experience being a warning to everyone to be careful on of broker’s promises. Migrant-to-be and its family shall start to dig more information with regard to the broker and the true existence of job offer outside the country.
