Hong Kong cuisine which barely tasteless will be too monotonous for a rich flavor lover like Indonesian migrants. In order to remind them of a taste of home, many of Indonesian migrants used to gather to cook Indonesian dishes together, or as simply as Indonesian traditional sauce.

Many Hong Kong locals also suits to spicy hot Indonesian food, so that some of them often asks their maid to cook Indonesian food for at least 3 or 4 days in a week. Some of them cook in a large portion to be brought as lunch at work.

There are also some Indonesian migrants who work on the same apartment who exchange veggies or any other Indonesian traditional food. Since there are lifts on the apartment, they may easily call one to another and wait upon the lift, and voila, a friend will come right away with food to be exchanged.

Some Indonesian migrants often cook on day off to be share with other workers. They usually discuss on what menu they’re going to cook and split the bill or the menu within the group. For those with nice employer, they asked to brought food from home to avoid unhealthy and expensive food outside. This will be beneficial for workers to save their meals budget.

This may be why most of people said that Hong Kong is a heaven for migrants, especially compares to any other destination countries. However, many migrants still don’t get their rights as worker as weekly off, and cellphone usage also to socialize with other migrants. (Fera)
