8 Migrant Workers from Central Java on Death Row

According to official release from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia to the Governor of Central Java, that in 2011, there are 8 migrant workers from Central Java who are currently charged by death penalty in Saudi Arabia and China. This data already validated by Head of Training and Manpower Placement of Social and Manpower Agency of Residence Cilacap, Sutiknyo, which clarifies that one of the eight is from Cilacap. They are charged for murder and heroin smuggling.

They are: (1) Satinah binti Jumadi, from Semarang, whose charged by murdering her madam in Arab, (2) Tarsini binti Tamir, from Brebes, whose charged by murdering son of her employer in Arab, (3) Nur Bidayati from Wonosobo, whose charged on heroin smuggling in China, (4) Dyah Purwaningsih, from Boyolali, whose in charged of drugs smuggling in China, (5) Ari Ani Hidayah from Banyumas, charged by heroin smuggling in China, (6) Tuti from Cilacap, convicted of carrying drugs, (7) Sri Mulyani from Kendal, charged on carrying drugs in Hong Kong/China, (8) Sri Bidayati from Pati, also charged on drugs smuggling.

As a matter of fact that in Saudi Arabia, all the cases are concerning murders, while in China cases are related to drugs. Director of Lakpesdam NU Cilacap, Khazam Bisri, said that it may be criticized that there is a pattern on the case and there shall be an in depth research on the death penalty for migrant worker which currently happening.

“I assume that our migrant worker now are being used by drugs syndicate”, said Hazam.

For Tuti’s case, according to Sutiknyo, Tuti is no longer a migrant worker when she is being arrested in China. PT Sanjaya sent her out in 2009 and returned her to Indonesia on 2010 for another case. The fact is in accordance to a clarification letter which sent by PT. Sanjaya to Social and Manpower Agency of Residence Cilacap, in which to clarify her name who recorded sent to Singapore on 2009 by PT Sanjaya.

Meanwhile, there are no job order to Shenzhen, China, in Cilacap at the time Tuti arrested”, said Sutiknyo. “Nonetheless, we welcome central government to give her legal aid who is currently charged on drugs case in China”, he concluded.
