Some people might be curious on finding out how Indonesian migrant workers celebrate new years eve in Hong Kong. Some of my friends called and told me that their employer ask them to go out and watch fireworks after. Some of them are already outside ever since the afternoon, walking through the city while wait for the new years. There are also few of friends who go out with other migrants to watch fireworks, as they feel much comfortable and cozier to hang out with just friends. Even, there are some employers who ask their employee to go outside and watch the fireworks while they are still in Hong Kong.
In the middle of winter with the freezing temperatures of 14-19 degrees celcius, many peoples still excited to go out and celebrate new years eve outside their home, including many Indonesian migrant workers. As many people dreamt to spend their new years eve in Hong Kong, it would be benefit for Indonesian migrants who are currently working in Hong Kong, but of course with permission of their employers. Some of them have to go back home after firework show ends and some others are permitted to sleepover at their relatives who lives in Hong Kong.
January 1st is the national holiday, thus many Indonesian migrants may spend their full day off. Many of them use this holiday to hang out, eating out, gathered with other migrant workers until late, and get back home on 7 or 8 or 9 p.m. depends on their employer.
How about Indonesian migrant workers in other countries? I sincerely hope that everyone could also enjoy freedom like what we own in Hong Kong.
Happy New Year. Wish 2012 could be a prosperous year for us all.
